Base suspends investment in Wallonia

Monday 12 January 2015 | 17:41 CET | News
Base is suspending investment in Wallonia, according to an interview by Datanews with the Belgian operator's CEO Jos Donvil. Following the increase in antenna fees by the Walloon government, it's near impossible for the mobile operator to turn a profit in the south of the country, he said. It's unclear for the company what to do about coverage in Wallonia. Taking down the network is not an option, as dismantling an existing site is as expensive as building a new one. Sharing the network is also not an option.
