Bassanini to step down as chairman of Italy state lender CDP

Franco Bassanini is to step down as chairman of Italy's state-backed holding company Cassa Depositi e Prestiti (CDP), confirmed the country's prime minister Matteo Renzi in a statement. When he resigns, Bassanini will become special consultant for the prime minister on the government's superfast broadband network expansion plan, which is due to be presented to the ministers' council this week. Bassanini will also continue as CEO of broadband provider Metroweb.
