BBC offers digital ownership option with new BBC Store
BBC Worldwide confirmed the launch of the BBC Store digital service on 05 November for users to buy and keep BBC programmes. Audiences will be able to watch the programmes they have purchased from BBC Store on BBC iPlayer as their purchases will appear in the new My Programmes area of BBC iPlayer to play back in full. They will also be able to access BBC Store directly from BBC iPlayer. 

As an introductory offer, those registering with BBC Store can claim a 25 percent discount on their first purchase. Audiences can buy programmes using a UK registered credit or debit card. In the coming weeks BBC Store gift cards will be available to buy at branches of ASDA, Sainsbury's, WH Smiths and Wilco. The launch of BBC Store supports the BBC's aim to raise more commercial income to supplement the licence fee.

BBC Store launched in November with more than 7,000 hours of content. It will add 70 hours weekly from new BBC programmes plus older shows from the BBC Television Archive. SeaChange provides the back office functions for metadata management, as well as supporting content curation, through its cloud-based OTT platform.

Alan Yentob steps down as BBC Creative Director

The BBC announced that Alan Yentob has decided to step down from his senior management role as Creative Director at end-2015. He will focus on programme making and TV production, and continue supporting Christine Langan and her team as Chairman of BBC Films. In a statement, Yentob said that the speculation about Kids Company and the media coverage about his role was proving a serious distraction for the BBC as it faced particularly challenging times.

BBC iPlayer requests reach 313 million in October

BBC iPlayer registered a total of 313 million TV and radio requests for programmes in October, with TV requests up 15 million from October 2014. Requests from computers, mobiles and tablets were up by 5, 9 and 8 percent respectively. There was an average of 10.1 million daily requests on BBC iPlayer in October, with radio requests remaining stable month on month. There were an average of 18.6 million unique browsers per week to BBC iPlayer (TV and Radio) in October.

BBC launches 'online first' listening for radio shows

The BBC has launched 'online first' listening for selected speech-based programming from across BBC Radio. This is being made available online, up to seven days before broadcast. This week, programmes from BBC Radio 2, BBC Radio 4, BBC Radio 5 live and BBC Radio 6 Music are appearing first on the station websites and in the BBC iPlayer radio app before they are broadcast to the public. The move was approved by the BBC Trust earlier in 2015. 'Online first' will include drama, comedy and factual programming.
