ITV accuses BBC of chasing ratings, wasting public funds

UK commercial broadcaster ITV has accused the BBC of breaking promises not to chase ratings, reports The Telegraph. In a submission to the Culture Select Committee's inquiry into the Government review of the BBC Charter, ITV said that the BBC was failing to justify its GBP 3.7 billion in public funding by relying on old and tired formats such as 'Bargain Hunt'. As well as the BBC's growing reliance on returning series, ITV also attacked the corporation's lack of distinctiveness and called for a raft of new rules and sanctions to force it to keep promises to make BBC One more different from
