BBC to revamp iPlayer

The BBC plans to redesign its online video platform iPlayer over the next few years, announced BBC director-general Tony Hall. Hall said the facelift's aim is to catch-up with more advanced services like Netflix and turn the service into a "must visit" destination. BBC's goal is for iPlayer to be the number one online TV service in the UK. That will mean doubling the number of people it reaches through the online service, and quadrupling the time each person spends on it every week by 2020, Hall said in a speech to BBC staff. The broadcaster is expected to put more programmes online first to watch as well as increase the number of series available for binge viewing.
