Belgian consumer group sues Apple over iPhone storage
The Belgian consumer group Test-Aankoop/Test Achats has filed a lawsuit in Brussels against Apple for misleading marketing. While Apple advertises its iPhone 6 with a certain amount of storage capacity, the full amount is not available to users, due to the pre-installed software on the phone. The consumer group said it hopes to use the suit to force other manufacturers to stop this practice.

Its own research found that the 16 GB iPhone 6 Plus actually has only 10.3 GB storage available out of the box, or 36 percent less than advertised. Almost all the major phone brands are guilty of the same offence. For example, of the 8 GB advertised on the Microsoft Lumia 640 XL, only 3.25 GB is available to the user, the Sony Xperia M4 Aqua offers 2.45 GB of the promised 8 GB, and the Samsung Galaxy S6 has only 24.7 GB available of the advertised 32 GB.
