Belgian coronavirus contact tracing app to start final trials

Wednesday 16 September 2020 | 13:18 CET | News

Belgium will start with its first major test on 18 September for the Belgian coronavirus tracker app. About 10,000 people from four regions will receive a link to download the app and test it for user-friendliness, among other things. A period of 10 days has been allocated for the test, with the aim of rolling out the app nationwide on 28 September.

The Belgian corona app uses Bluetooth signals to register all other users who have come into close proximity of each other. If one of these users gets diagnosed with the virus, it will receive a code that can be entered into the app. At that point, all those who were in contact with the infected person during the incubation period will receive a notification, with the advice to go into quarantine and get themselves tested in case of complaint.
