Belgian data protection agency board member resigns in protest

One of the five board members of the Belgian Data Protection Authority (DPA) has resigned, citing "dissatisfaction with the lack of independence at the authority," various papers reported, including De Tijd, La Libre and Le Soir. Alexandra Jaspar headed the Knowledge Center, which assesses bills for privacy and makes sure data remains private. Jaspar said the centre cannot do its work properly as some of its members have double functions. She said she does not want to be "complicit in this behaviour" and is therefore resigning.
