Belgian minister calls for hackers to test big data privacy

Belgian Digital Agenda minister Alexander De Croo has called for the use of 'ethical hackers' to test whether businesses using big data techniques are respecting privacy law. His statement follows the news that telecom operator Proximus has started a business selling anonymised location data on its customer base. De Croo said agencies such as the Privacy Commission should adopt more "real-life" tests as part of their enforcement, rather than relying on paper filings for companies processing personal data. He plans to set up an expertise centre at the regulator in order to address the privacy
