Belgian operators agree to extra investment in Wallonia

The Belgian mobile operators Base, Proximus and Orange have confirmed an agreement with the Wallonia government to step up their investment in the region in exchange for a withdrawal of contested taxes on network infrastructure. The operators agreed to invest EUR 60 million over the next three years in the region, on top of their existing capex budgets. The Wallonia government agreed to withdraw its tax on telecom infrastructure and push local governments not to implement similar taxes, in order to ensure a better roll-out of broadband and mobile coverage.
