Belgian operators contest local tower taxes in Wallonia

More and more cities in Wallonia are implementing taxes on mobile towers, following a law passed by the region last year allowing taxes of up to EUR 8,000 per year on each antenna. According to a survey by L'Echo, more than 120 municipalities have implemented the taxes, at an average rate of almost EUR 4,000 per site. This comes in addition to the tax levied by the provincial government, also worth up to EUR 8,000 per year. The three mobile operators have together an estimated 4,000 antennas in Wallonia. They have complained that the criteria of the tax are unclear, including the definition
