Belgian privacy regulator to tighten up supervision for GDPR

Belgian privacy regulator GBA is tightening up its GDPR compliance monitoring. Violators of privacy rules may face fines earlier, new chairman David Stevens said in De Tijd.In the past year, GBA supervision was very limited in practice, partly because a language issue, namely the need to find a German-speaking board member. This prevented the board of five members from taking office and made proper supervision very difficult. In January, the GBA was surprised at the small number of reported data breaches since 25 May 2018. These amounted to 442, compared to nearly 21,000 in the Netherlands.
