Benin chooses Sonatel to run country's third mobile network

Benin's government has selected Sonatel as the private partner that will run public company SBIN (Societe Beninoise d'Infrastructures Numeriques) and operate a third mobile network competing with Moov (Etisalat/Maroc Telecom) and market leader MTN. The decision finalises an international tender process launched in 2019, after state-owned mobile operator Libercom ceased operations in 2018 following years of mismanagement.
