Best Buy gets exclusive on new Amazon Fire smart TVs

Amazon has partnered with Best Buy to bring its Fire TV platform to more people. The retailer will begin selling this summer smart TVs by Toshiba and Insignia that come with the Fire TV platform built-in. More than ten 4K and HD models are planned for the US and Canada markets, and they will include Amazon's Alexa voice-controlled digital assistant. 

In addition to being the exclusive seller of the Fire TVs in stores and on the Best Buy website, Best Buy will start as a third-party seller on Amazon.com offering the devices. The TVs will come with regular updates to add apps and Alexa skills. 

Amazon launched a first Fire TV set last year on its own website, but the offer was not widely promoted. The new range at Best Buy expands its distribution and adds to the existing Fire TV range of set-top boxes and dongles.

Best Buy raises FY comparable sales growth target to 3.5-4.5%

US retailer Best Buy lifted its guidance for full-year revenue and earnings growth after reporting a strong July quarter. The company now expects annual comparable sales growth of 3.5-4.5 percent for the year to January 2019, versus a previous outlook of flat to 2 percent higher sales.

Amazon developing own digital video recorder for live TV - report

Amazon is developing a new device that records live TV, a person familiar with the plans told Bloomberg. Dubbed 'Frank' inside Amazon, the digital video recorder is designed for the streaming era and includes physical storage and access to Amazon's Fire TV boxes. An Amazon spokeswoman declined to comment.

Amazon brings Prime Music, Echo and Alexa to Canada

Amazon has launched Prime Music in Canada. Customers in Canada can begin streaming Prime Music within the Amazon Music app for iOS, Android, Mac, PC, Fire TV Stick Basic Edition and on any Web browser. Customers who pre-order any of the company's soon-to-be-launched Echo devices will be able to start streaming Prime Music when Echo begins shipping in Canada on 5 December, with the help of Amazon's cloud-based voice assistant Alexa. People will be able to trial the service free for 30 days.
