Amazon unveils basic Fire TV stick for new video markets

Amazon has unveiled a new low-cost streaming stick to support access to its Prime Video service around the world. The Fire TV Stick Basic Edition is available in more than 100 countries, including Canada, France, Italy and Spain. Customers can set their default language as Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, French, Italian, German or English.

The stick plugs into the HDMI port on the TV, connects over dual-band Wi-Fi and can be controlled with the accompanying remote control. It provides access to content from Prime Video, Netflix, YouTube, TuneIn and over 4,000 apps and games.

The new stick is priced at EUR 59.99 and offered at EUR 39.99 for customers who sign up for a one-month free trial of Amazon Prime.

Amazon already offers a Fire TV stick in markets where it has a dedicated video offer, such as the US, UK and Germany. That stick includes the Alexa digital assistant with voice controls and sells for EUR 39.99. The new stick follows the launch of its video service worldwide at the end of last year.
