Biden revokes Trump executive order on social media liability

The US President Joe Biden has revoked an order issued a year ago by his predecessor Donald Trump that attempted to limit the liability of social media platforms for content posted on their sites. The decision means the FCC can cease work on a new interpretation and enforcement of the liability provisions in the Communications Decency Act.

The decision came in a brief statement from the White House rescinding several of Trump's executive orders, with no further explanation.

Trump had made holding social media account a priority for his administration and was working on both stricter enforcement of the existing legislation and a new law to increase liability for user-generated content. Neither of the campaigns progressed beyond the consultation phase
