Bit, media groups start suit against data retention law

The internet provider Bit along with the group Privacy First, a number of media industry associations and the Dutch association of defense lawyers have started a lawsuit against the state over data retention requirements. They want the court to overturn the law on data retention, which requires communication service providers to store data on their customers for eventual law enforcement purposes. While the EU court overturned the EU directive on which the law is based, the Dutch government has said it plans to maintain large parts of the law. Other groups involved in the suit include the
