BlackBerry boosts cybersecurity services, acquires Ecription

BlackBerry has announced the launch of its Professional Cybersecurity Services practice to offer organisations new consulting services, tools and best practices to assess and prevent cyber security risks. BlackBerry's new global Professional Cybersecurity Services practice will address - Strategic Security, Technical Security, Automotive and IoT Security, as well as Detection, Testing and Analysis.

As part of the new Professional Cybersecurity Services practice – and aligned with BlackBerry's core focus on securing mobile communications across all platforms – BlackBerry acquired UK-based cybersecurity consulting company Encription. The deal was completed on 19 February, with financial terms undisclosed.

Blackberry loss swells to USD 670 mln after writedowns

BlackBerry recorded a net loss of USD 670 million for its fiscal first quarter to May, reversing a profit of USD 68 million a year ago. The company took a number of writedowns in the quarter, including USD 501 million on assets, USD 57 million on goodwill and USD 41 million on inventory. Barclays, BlackBerry add BBM support to Pingit app

Global financial services provider Barclays and BlackBerry have partnered to bring BBM to Pingit money transfers in the UK. The Pingit mobile app enables allows instant money transfers using phone numbers, and now BBM. As of 19 February, BBM users can initiate mobile payment transfers to each other using the Pingit application. BlackBerry lays off 200 workers

BlackBerry announced it has laid off 200 workers at its head office in Ontario and at an office in Florida, the New York Times reported, citing a notice filed with the State of Florida. Most of the layoffs occurred at the company's headquarters in Waterloo, Ontario, and some at an office in Florida. The filing indicates 75 people at a branch in Sunrise.
