BlackBerry to cut up to 40% of staff by year-end - report

BlackBerry is preparing to cut up to 40 percent of its staff by the end of this year, people familiar with the matter told the Wall Street Journal. The layoffs will cut across all departments and occur in waves, likely affecting several thousand workers. BlackBerry had 12,700 employees as of March, the last time it disclosed figures. A BlackBerry spoksman said "organizational moves will continue" will continue at the company, but declined to provide further details. The company also let workers go earlier this summer, mostly from the sales and R&D divisions, and reduced its workforce by 5,000
