BoF critical of data retention law implementation

Dutch digital rights group Bits of Freedom (BoF) has called the implementation of data retention laws "messy". The organisation said it forecast it would be messy already last year and added that the careless manner of implementation ups the risk that private data will be kept longer than the law requires. BoF blames the "mess" not so much on ISPs as on the government, which gave technical specifications to the law only after it was put into force. BoF added that it agreed with providers that the high level of security required by the law was not in line with the way investigators handle
