BoF highlights security gaps in police telecoms database

The central database of telecom traffic information used by police in the Netherlands is not secure, according to the digital rights group Bits of Freedom. It issued a statement highlighting the weak security after an audit of the database service, which BoF obtained earlier through a freedom of information request, was made public. Known as the CIOT, the database contains all the traffic information of Dutch telephony and internet providers. The latest audit followed a similar procedure in 2008 and measures for improvement after the audit in 2009. One of the proposals after the 2008 audit
