Bouygues, SFR to share GPONs in high-density areas

French operators Bouygues Telecom and SFR have signed an agreement to co-invest in fibre-optic network deployment in some very high population density areas, as defined by telecommunications regulator Arcep. Their joint choice of GPON technology will allow them to share their investment and horizontal fibre networks between their points of presence and each building in the selected towns and cities. The deal will allow both operators to accelerate and extend their FTTH equipment deployments to supply their individual end-user bases. SFR already introduced FTTH services in several areas and plans to add more in 2011. Bouygues Telecom intends to launch its FTTH services in the second half of next year.
