Orange, Bouygues sign FTTH network access agreement

France Telecom-Orange has entered into an agreement with Bouygues Telecom to share Orange's FTTH networks across France. In very densely populated areas, where there are 1.7 million homes, Bouygues will be able to use Orange's fibre networks up to the foot of buildings. Within the buildings, it will have to build its own networks or subscribe to available cable-sharing offers. Outside very densely populated areas, Bouygues has subscribed to France Telecom-Orange's wholesale cable-sharing offer, potentially giving it access to 8.9 million homes. France Telecom-Orange signed similar agreements with Free and SFR in the second half of 2011. Announced in February 2010, the operator's FTTH programme calls for an investment of EUR 2 billion through 2015 to bring fibre to 3,600 municipalities, providing coverage for 10 million households by 2015 and 15 million by 2020, or nearly 60 percent of all French households.
