Bouygues sues Free Mobile over smear campaign

French operator Bouygues Telecom has filed a lawsuit against rival Free at the Paris commercial court accusing the latter of unfair competition and waging a smear campaign at the time of the launch of Free Mobile in January. Bouygues confirmed to AFP a report in Challenges magazine that it had taken legal action but would not confirm that it was seeking EUR 98 million in damages. During the launch event, Xavier Niel, the CEO of Free parent company Iliad, had called subscribers of existing mobile operators "pigeons" (suckers) and "milk cows" for paying too much for their services.
