Bouygues Telecom continues growth trend momentum, Q1 EBITDA up 20%

Thursday 16 May 2019 | 10:04 CET | News

French operator Bouygues Telecom has posted first-quarter revenues of EUR 1.45 billion, up 13 percent year-on-year. Ongoing customer gains supported a rise in service revenues, which increased 6 percent to EUR 1.09 billion (+4% in Q4).

The operator's healthy EBITDA growth trend continued, with the EBITDA after leases result up 20 percent to EUR 300 million. Its contribution to Bouygues group's net profit declined to EUR 53 million, down from EUR 70 million in the year-earlier period. The difference mainly related to capital gains made by Bouygues on the sale of mobile cell sites to Cellnex (58 sites transferred in Q1 2019, compared with 331 in Q1 2018).

In line with previous guidance, Bouygues Telecom is targeting full-year free cash flow of EUR 300 million, compared with EUR 188 million reported in 2018. In the B2B market, the company finalised its acquisitions of Keyyo and Nerim during the first quarter, and continues to view this market segment as one of the key drivers of future growth.

Postpaid customers rose by 149,000 since December (+121,000 in Q4) to reach 11.0 million. The overall mobile base increased to 16.8 million, up by 458,000 in the quarter when including M2M connections. Blended ARPU stood at EUR 19.20, broadly stable sequentially and from the year-earlier period.

In the fixed business, broadband net additions dipped to 59,000 from 73,000 in the previous quarter, bringing the total to 3.7 million. The FTTH customer base increased by 94,000 since December (+102,000 in Q4) for a total of 663,000. Broadband ARPU declined by EUR 0.10 sequentially to EUR 25.80, and was EUR 0.50 lower than in the year-earlier period.
