Brazil antitrust would block Oi takeover by TIM, Claro and Vivo – report

If TIM, Claro and Vivo go ahead with the intention of buying the mobile unit of Oi, it is highly likely that the operation will be rejected by Brazil's Administrative Council of Economic Defense (Cade), sources from the antitrust authority told O Globo. There is concern about the effects on competition in the sector if the takeover goes ahead. However, if the assets were sold to a company that is not yet in the market, the analysis by Cade would last less than one year, because a new entrant would bring less competition concerns.
