Brazil operators fined BRL 22.7 mln for blocking internet

Brazilian consumer protection agency Procon-SP has fined telecommunications operators Oi, TIM, Claro and Vivo a total of BRL 22.7 million for breach of contract due to blocking mobile internet plans sold as unlimited, reports Reuters. Earlier this year, the operators decided to block mobile internet for users that fully used their franchise data, instead of slowing down the speed as previously. According to Procon-SP, operators may appeal the decision, or pay the amount with a discount, or even spread the debt out in multiple payments. Oi was fined BRL 8 million, TIM was fined BRL 6.65 million, Claro was fined BRL 4.55 million and Vivo BRL 3.55 million.
