Brazil's Ministry of Science, Technology, Innovation and Communications has signed a memorandum of understanding with Huawei do Brasil to collaborate in R&D programmes for ICT services. The MoU covers technical and economic feasibility studies for the expansion and improvement of broadband in Brazil, through 5G and fibre-optic networks.

In Huawei's view, the five-year agreement should promote tangible results, such as tripling the number of households connected by optical fibre and doubling the number of mobile broadband locations in Brazil. The cooperation also covers public policy recommendations to foster smart and secure city applications, large-scale adoption of cloud computing, and the preparation of an IoT ecosystem.
