Bredbandsbolaget resumes data retention

Telenor's Swedish arm Bredbandsbolaget said it has decided to resume data retention, pending the outcome of a court case to decide whether the Swedish law on economic communications (LEK) is compatible with European Union law. When the EU data retention directive was declared invalid in April, Swedish postal and telecoms regulator PTS said it could not enforce the LEK, which had previously regulated data retention. Bredbandsbolaget had taken this to mean the law did not apply, and had stopped storing customer information. Since then, a state probe and PTS have stated that they do expect
