BRIICs to drive smartphone growth this year and beyond

Thursday 17 January 2013 | 16:50 CET | News
Developing markets are projected to contribute 70-80 percent of the smartphone shipment growth this year, led by the BRIIC markets (Brazil, Russia, India, Indonesia and China), according to Canalys. BRIIC countries each feature in the top 20 new growth markets for this year, and no developed market is on the list. BRIIC countries' smartphone markets are already bigger than North America and Western Europe's combined, and the five counties are forecast to account for 38 percent of global shipments this year. BRIIC countries are projected to see 19 percent CAGR in 2012-2016.
