Italian prime minister Matteo Renzi has described the challenge of rolling out a national high-speed broadband network as "the mother of all battles" during his intervention at the first Italian Digital Day held at Venaria Palace near Turin. The Italian government has so far freed up only EUR 2.2 billion of public funds to begin work on the country's EUR 12 billion broadband expansion plan, but Renzi said he was determined to take advantage of the opportunities offered by the digital revolution.
