Friday 12 January 2018 | 11:00 CET | News

Elfed Thomas, founder of i3 Group, has launched a new fibre network infrastructure in the UK called British Fibre Networks (BFN), The company will build and offer pure fibre connections to new homes with speeds up to 1 Gbps and a choice of ISP, aiming to cover more than 35 percent of new homes by 2021.

Manchester-based BFN will build and offer pure fibre to new homes in both urban and rural areas. Working in partnership with house builders and developers, it will install a pure fibre aggregator portal in new homes that connects to a wider range of fibre networks, giving homeowners access to multiple broadband providers.

Elfed Thomas said that the new company wanted to create a business model that breaks up the monopoly of BT to ensure that new homes the fibre infrastructure necessary to connect to broadband providers. BFN is also in talks with a leading price comparison site to provide a platform for managing the choice of ISP for customers.
