BT brings fibre service to Isles of Scilly

BT has completed its project of bringing fibre optic connectivity to the Isles of Scilly, 28 miles off the coast of Cornwall, with the first customers now online. Isles of Scilly homes and businesses now have access to broadband up to 80 Mbps. A 939 km cable between Cornwall and Santander, which was unused since 2006, was diverted to the Isles of Scilly this summer. BT Openreach installed a new network linking the five inhabited islands, with fibre cable between St Mary's, Tresco and Byher, and radio links for St Agnes and St Martins.
