BT says Openreach spin-off may threaten broadband investment

BT has issued a warning to the UK government that it will not invest in broadband upgrades if there are moves to break up the company to address complaints about its power from Sky and TalkTalk. CEO Gavin Patterson said he would be unable to convince the BT board to spend billions deploying new broadband technology across the country if there is a suggestion that the Openreach division, which runs the network, could be forcibly spun off, The Daily Telegraph reports. The issue is being considered by Ofcom as part of a once-a-decade review of the communications sector due to report back later
