BT signs up 60,000 TV, 85,000 broadband customers in Q1

BT Group has reported revenue of GBP 4.28 billion for its fiscal first quarter ended 30 June, down 2 percent from a year earlier. Group EBITDA increased 1 percent to GBP 1.45 billion, and adjusted profit before tax was up 9 percent to GBP 694 million. BT confirmed that superfast fibre broadband was now available to more than 23 million premises across the UK, with a take-up rate of 20 percent. BT Consumer revenue was up 3 percent year-on-year to GBP 1.07 billion, with broadband and TV revenue up 7 percent. BT Consumer EBITDA increased 7 percent to GBP 254 million.

BT said that over 100,000 customers have signed up for its consumer mobile offering in the three months since re-entering the market in March. It also added 217,000 retail fibre broadband customers in Q1 to reach a total of 3.2 million. Overall UK market broadband customer additions were 149,000 in Q1, with BT Retail accounting for 85,000 (57%). Consumer ARPU increased 5 percent to GBP 419, driven mainly by broadband, including the effect of people moving to fibre. BT also added 60,000 TV customers in Q1, taking the TV customer base to 1.2 million. BT Sport's average daily audience figures increased 51 percent during the quarter.

BT Global Services saw Q1 revenue fall 6 percent year-on-year to GBP 1.54 billion, including a GBP 38 million negative impact from foreign exchange movements and a GBP 6 million decline in transit revenue. Total order intake was GBP 1.2 billion in the quarter, up 14 percent, and GBP 6.6 billion on a rolling twelve-month basis, up 4 percent.
