BT Sport to be free for consumer BT Broadband customers
BT has confirmed that BT Sport will be free to any consumer BT broadband customer. The company currently has more than five million homes taking BT broadband. To encourage people to switch broadband supplier, BT is offering new customers the BT Infinity fibre broadband service from GBP 15 per month or copper broadband from GBP 10. Customers wanting to take the BT Sport channels without BT broadband will pay GBP 15 per month for HD from BT via Sky’s digital satellite platform or GBP 12 in standard definition. BT Sport will be available via BT's own TV service, Sky’s digital satellite platform and also online or via a new app for access on PCs, smartphones and tablets. Customers who wish to watch BT Sport on their TVs will require a set top box. This will be a YouView or Vision+ box for BT TV customers or a Sky box if customers take the channels via Sky’s digital satellite platform.
BT has also launched a TV ad campaign for BT Sport, designed to promote its wide range of content. This will be supported by a national outdoor advertising campaign featuring BT Ambassadors, Gareth Bale, Robin Van Persie, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Georgios Samaras, Owen Farrell, Chris Robshaw and Manu Tuilagi. There will also be press and digital activity focused around key sporting dates over the next month. The campaign will have a strong focus on social media with activity across Facebook, Twitter and Youtube counting down towards the launch of the BT Sport channels .
