BT, Virgin say higher business rates to slow roll-out

Monday 20 February 2017 | 09:25 CET | News
British ISPs Virgin Media and BT have warned that the planned increase in business rates in Britain will slow down the roll-out of faster broadband in the country. The UK's two largest broadband providers said that they are facing an increased bill of GBP 1.3 billion over the next five years as new business rates kick in from April, The Times reports. They say that the money would be enough to connect or upgrade more than 2 million homes to "superfast" internet. The companies have previously said the higher local taxes could also result in price hikes for customers.
