Building converged 5G-fibre networks could save over 90% in costs - study

With careful advance planning, operators could end up with 5G for "free" when building a future-proof fibre-to-the-home network, according to a study conducted by Comsof for FTTH Council Europe. After analysing a variety of scenarios, the study concluded that if a FTT-5G (fibre to a 5G antenna/base station) network is anticipated while planning for a FTTH network, the range of cost savings for the FTT-5G network due to convergence can reach between 65 percent and 96 percent.
