Cable industry tells EU to keep broadband funding away

Cable Europe, the lobby group for the cable TV industry, has warned the EU to keep its proposed financing for broadband networks away from cable footprints. In a statement, the industry group acknowledged "there is a case for state aid funding to make sure that the Digital Agenda avoids a Digital Divide". However, it warned the EU to keep the public funds "out of our territories", as this could "kill the will for private investment". Cable Europe highlighted the industry's progress in already meeting the goals of the EU's Digital Agenda. It claims 50 percent of EU households are within reach
