Canal Plus to pay EUR 4 mln fine for misleading price rise

Monday 13 July 2020 | 12:45 CET | News
French broadcaster Canal Plus reached a settlement to pay a fine of around EUR 4 million after admitting responsibility for imposing unlawful terms on its customers, reports Le Parisien. The court action, heard by the tribunal of Nanterre, centred on a price rise communicated by Canal Plus to around 430,000 of its pay-TV subscribers at the end of 2017. The court found that the broadcaster used an unlawful sales practice in telling customers that they would automatically move to a more expensive offer unless they opted out and asked to keep their current subscription.
