Canal+ unveils new pricing structure for French TV offering

Canal Plus has unveiled a new pricing structure for its French TV offering at a press conference on 13 October. During the event, the company also made several other announcements, including the forthcoming launch of a new ‘Canal’ logo and the introduction of an updated set-top box, expected in mid-2017. Launching on 15 November, Canal Plus’ new modular structure will be advertised with a EUR 19.90 entry-level price point. Alongside this cheaper headline price, the premium TV offering is repackaged into thematic groups, including sports, movies and family bundles.

The company stated that its main objective is to double the number of subscribers. As part of this strategy, it has recently reached new commercial agreements with Orange and Free, while continuing to negotiate similar deals with Bouygues Telecom and SFR. It has also revealed a partnership with Apple, to be unveiled by the end of the year.

In the new modular structure, customers will need to subscribe to an entry-level service priced from EUR 19.90 per month. At this price point, the TV offering includes one basic Canal Plus channel and a number of services (including Canal + Decale and MyCanal). As an alternative to this “Essential” package, customers will be able to opt for a larger choice of channels (“Essentiel Famille”), priced from EUR 29.90 per month. More channels, including the sports and movies bundles, can then be added to these two basic tiers.
