Cartel Office to closely examine E-Plus, O2 merger

Wednesday 21 August 2013 | 11:19 CET | News
The proposed merger of E-Plus and Telefonica in Germany will require close examination by the Federal Cartel Office, reports Reuters. In an interview with the 'Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung' newspaper, to be published on 21 August, Cartel Office president Andreas Mundt said that the merger would have a considerable impact on competition and would need to be examined closely. In an excerpt of the article made available to Reuters, Mundt insisted that the Federal Cartel Office should be in charge of regulatory examination of the deal, not the European Commission.
