CBS reports strong growth in online, multichannel sales

Wednesday 20 January 2016 | 10:31 CET | News
Online-only retailers in the Netherlands increased their sales almost 17 percent in the first 11 months of 2015 compared to the year earlier. That compares to just 1 percent growth in the overall retail sector, according to figures from the statistics bureau CBS. Multichannel retailers grew sales 25 percent in the period.  The number of online shops also continues to grow strongly, while physical shops are declining. There were almost 30,000 online shops in the Netherlands in early 2015, up from 5,000 in 2007. Physical shops, excluding the food sector, fell to 74,000 from 80,000 in 2010.
