CDP seeks Vodafone, Wind support in Metroweb project

The chairman of Italy's state-backed holding company Cassa Depositi e Prestiti (CDP), Franco Bassanini, has held informal talks with Vodafone Italia, Wind and Telecom Italia as he seeks to revive the Metroweb operation, according to unnamed sources cited in Italian daily La Repubblica. CDP has a 44 percent stake in Metroweb's holding company Metroweb Italia, the rest of which is owned by Italian infrastructure fund F2i, and Bassanini is keen to use the Milan-based broadband provider as the vehicle for the country's fibre-optic expansion. Vodafone Italia has expressed an interest in investing
