Cellnex claims EUR 143 mln for closure of DTT channels

Spanish operator Cellnex is claiming up to EUR 143 million in damages from the Spanish state due to the closure of nine DTT channels a year ago. The operator, which distributed the channels' DTT signals, has submitted a financial liability claim due to lost hypothetical lost earnings following the Supreme Court's ruling that the award of the licences in 2010 without a public tender was unlawful. The switch off reduced the number of DTT channels in Spain from 24 to 15, with the Supreme Court threatening to close down a further eight DTT channels on similar grounds. The government last week
