Cellnex eyeing takeover of France's TDF for EUR 3 bln - report

Spanish infrastructure operator Cellnex Telecom is planning to consolidate its leadership of the European towers market by acquiring a 60 percent controlling stake in France’s TDF Infraestructure for around EUR 3 billion, according to unnamed financial sources cited by business daily Expansion. Cellnex is already present in France through its various deals with Bouygues Telecom and will be managing around 5,000 sites including new tower builds by 2022. TDF currently has a portfolio of some 13,900 sites, half of which are broadcasting towers and the rest mobile towers.

News of a possible transaction comes shortly after Cellnex announced a EUR 1.198 billion capital increase to strengthen the group’s resources and fund its further expansion, with CEO Tobias Martinez describing 2019 as a "year of activity" for the operator. At the end of December Cellnex had a total of 23,440 sites (8,589 in Spain, 8,308 in Italy and 6,543 in the Netherlands, France, the UK and Switzerland), with a further 1,592 DAS and small cell nodes.
