Central Bank of Iran plans to introduce NFC mobile payments

Wednesday 10 February 2021 | 10:35 CET | News
The Central Bank of Iran (CBI) has announced plans to introduce NFC contactless payments in the country, enabling consumers to upload their bank card information to their mobile phone and use their device to make in-store purchases at the point of sale, Press TV reported. The bank said the plan would eliminate the need to use cards for day-to-day purchases in shops and that it is consistent with credible international standards. It said contactless payment would add to the ease of using electronic banking systems in Iran and help cut contagion during the coronavirus pandemic.
