Chile picks New Zealand-Australia route for 'Transoceanic Cable' project

Tuesday 28 July 2020 | 11:33 CET | News
Chile's telecommunications watchdog Subtel confirmed that the government has selected New Zealand and Australia as the landing points for its 'Transoceanic Cable' project to connect the country with Oceania and Asia. The decision was reached by Chile's transport and telecommunications ministry after a feasibility study on potential traffic between the continents concluded that Chile-Auckland-Sydney was the most efficient and profitable route, said the regulator, adding that Australia is Oceania's digital hub thanks to the presence of a dozen interconnection cables with the rest of the world.
