Chile to launch Patagonia fibre tenders later this year

Friday 8 January 2016 | 09:58 CET | News
Chile's telecoms regulator Subtel is set to award the tenders to roll out fibre-optic infrastructure in the southern Patagonia region by the end of the year, reports business daily Pulso, citing Subtel head Pedro Huichalaf. The country's budget office (Dipres) has approved USD 100 million of funding for the public-private Fibra Optica Austral project and Subtel will now begin drawing up the tender conditions for consultation and publication in a few months' time. The plan envisages the deployment of a 3,000km submarine cable between Puerto Montt and Puerto Williams in southern Chile.
