Chile to launch tender for 600 more Wi-Fi hotspots this year

Wednesday 9 October 2019 | 12:25 CET | News
Chile's telecommunications services regulator Subtel has announced its intention to launch a tender to install 600 new free Wi-Fi hotspots in digital divide areas before the end of 2019. There are currently over 1,200 active zones under Subtel's ChileGob Wi-Fi hotspot programme, allowing users to access the internet free of charge for 30 minutes. The new "Digital Matrix" plan launched by Chilean president Sebastian Pinera earlier this year proposed to double that number by 2022.
